Senator Bryan Hughes
Senator Bryan Hughes is serving his first term in the Texas Senate, representing the 16 counties of Senate District One in Northeast Texas. Previously, he represented District Five in the Texas House of Representatives for seven terms. He is a member of the Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence. He was named by Texas Right to Life as the Pro-Life Whip of the Texas House. He was honored to be chosen by US District Judge William Steger of Tyler to serve as his Law Clerk, a position he held from 1995-1997.
In 2002 in his first run for political office, he was elected with 52% of the vote. In 2004 he was reelected by a 62% margin and in 2006 with 82%. He was unopposed for reelection in 2008 & 2010. In 2012 Bryan faced his first primary opponent and the voters in the newly-drawn district honored him with a 77% margin of victory.
Bryan was the first member of his family to receive a Bachelor’s degree. As a small businessman, he knows about hard work and the value of a dollar. Bryan is a leader in his church, a Red Cross disaster relief volunteer, and active in civic and community organizations.
